As part of the SMOTIES project in Oberzeiring, Austria, my team and I developed an intervention project. We selected quotes from all the interviews our class had conducted with residents and used our school’s cutter plotter to create large window decals featuring those select quotes.
We also produced smaller decals with a call to action, encouraging residents to write an email with their thoughts and ideas on how life in Oberzeiring could be improved. We chose to place the decals only in vacant houses close to the town centre.
One was located next to the church, which was formerly used for choir practice. During our stay in the town, we installed a hidden sound installation inside this house. A speaker played a soundtrack created by my colleague, Theresa Schönegger, which imitated a large group of people talking and starting their choir practice.
