The exhibition explores the technologies of Blockchain and DAOs in the context of democratic decision-making, presented through a playful journey with interactive elements. The MAK – Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna commissioned the design collective Gemeinde-Bau, which I joined for this exhibition project, to develop the concept and design.
Visitors are introduced to these technologies and their use cases across four distinct areas, combining textual explanations and interactive experiences. In the Living Room, visitors become part of a shared home where they can provide input and learn about Smart Contracts. The MAK Garden invites them to vote for an event in the real MAK Garden, offering insights into DAO voting mechanisms. Infinity mirrors in this space, as well as in the final area, visually represent the blockchain and immerse visitors within it. The Critic Room switches the mirrored axes to create a bottomless and topless effect, emphasizing the limitations and challenges of these technologies. The final area, featuring Ettore Sottsass building blocks, encourages visitors to create discussion spaces. A large word search wall sparks dialogue by introducing different terms and their connections to DAOs.
